Week 15

27th January – 31st January ♡

This week centred on contributing to the new tender, refining design concepts, and enhancing my technical competencies. The work involved a balanced integration of creative exploration, structured planning, and skill development.

At the start of the week, I organised my thoughts by compiling notes from Friday’s meeting and reviewing the current design brief. Engaging with Illustrator tutorials was instrumental in refining my design proficiency. A group lunch for Virna’s birthday provided a refreshing break, underscoring the value of social interactions alongside professional development. Later, the action plan meeting established a clear trajectory for the week, after which I began developing an inspiration board to guide my creative process.

The following morning was dedicated to further refining the inspiration board, a crucial step in conceptualising potential designs. I then transitioned into 3D modelling, beginning with a photo booth inspired by the aesthetics of the 1960s and 1970s. This task required careful consideration of historical references and spatial design principles. By the afternoon, I had completed the photo booth model and shifted focus to a factory model, which adopted a contemporary industrial aesthetic. The diversity of tasks sustained my engagement and motivation.

The subsequent day was dedicated to advancing the factory model, ensuring its alignment with the broader design objectives. In the morning, I concentrated on refining its details and experimenting with alternative approaches. By the afternoon, I had developed a comprehensive set of ideas that could be further expanded.

The second session of the presentation workshop provided an opportunity to refine my communication and storytelling abilities, which are essential for effectively presenting creative concepts. In the afternoon, I finalised the factory model, synthesising the ideas developed throughout the week.

Working from home on Friday necessitated an environmental shift but did not diminish productivity. The DPS tutorial in the morning offered a moment for reflection on my progress and future development. In the afternoon, I undertook a technical challenge, learning to integrate two different 3D design software programs to construct a singular model. This experience significantly expanded my digital skill set, enhancing my adaptability in design methodologies.

This week provided valuable insight into effectively balancing research, conceptualisation, hands-on modelling, and software proficiency. Each of these elements contributed meaningfully to the ongoing tender, leaving me with increased confidence in my ability to translate conceptual ideas into tangible designs.
